To support and develop students' professional competencies, share international experience, and enhance theoretical knowledge and practical skills in medical rehabilitation, the 1st International Olympiad in Rehabilitation was held on April 23–24, 2026, at Astana Medical University. Students from medical universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and neighboring countries participated. Karaganda Medical University was represented by undergraduate academic and residency students.

The International Olympiad consisted of three stages: testing students' knowledge of rehabilitation fundamentals, clinical case studies with practical skills demonstrations on simulation stations, and an assessment of professional and clinical competencies, including the presentation of their startup in the field of rehabilitation. All students from Karaganda Medical University confirmed their skills and clinical competencies in the field of rehabilitation by top places.

First place was won by a team of first- and second-year medical residents (A. Shadatov, A. Smagul, K. Buruyan, and E. Koishiman), who presented on the topic of “RehabGuide Telegram Bot for Assisting Patients” (research advisers: Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor N.I. Sheveleva, and Candidate of Medical Sciences, senior lecturer R.D. Uteubayeva).

Second place was taken by a bachelor’s degree student T. Zhunussova (research adviser Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor T.T. Kispayeva), who presented on the topic of “Application of the MediaPipe Framework in the Recovery of Patients with Post-Stroke Dysarthria.” Third place was shared by bachelor’s degree students R. Bulatova, who presented on the topic of “Use a Mobile App for Active Kinesitherapy of the Affected Upper Limb in Patients with Cerebral Palsy”, and T. Vlasova with the topic “Using a Digital Platform in the Recovery of Patients with Motor Deficit after Cerebral Apoplexy” (research adviser Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor T.T. Kispayeva).
