On September 10–11, 2026, the 7th International Scientific and Practical Conference "Modern Neurology: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Rehabilitation" took place which was organized by “Karaganda Medical University” NCJSC in collaboration with the "NEIRON" Professional Association and supported by the Department of Healthcare of the Karaganda region, and brought together professionals in neurology, stroke medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as scientists, practicing physicians, and young researchers.

As part of the opening of the conference, welcoming remarks were delivered by B.M. Mukhametbek, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Human Resources of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan; G.A. Imanghali, Director of the Department of Inclusion of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan; L.T. Ospanova, Deputy Head of the Maternal and Child Health at the Department of Healthcare of the Karaganda region; and Zh.A. Dauletkaliyeva, Vice-Rector for Academic and Social Work at "Karaganda Medical University" NCJSC.

The scientific program focused on current issues in the organization of stroke care, modern approaches to treatment and rehabilitation after stroke, robotic technologies, artificial intelligence in rehabilitation medicine, personalized medicine and genetic diagnostics, post-stroke dementia, and other areas of modern neurology.




A significant feature of the conference was the participation of international experts from Australia, Italy, Germany, China, Canada, and the United States. Among the invited international experts was Craig Anderson, President-Elect of the World Stroke Organization, Professor of Neurology and Epidemiology at the University of New South Wales, and Director of the Global Brain Health Program at the George Institute for Global Health. In his presentation, he provided an international perspective on the World Health Organization’s activity on reducing the global burden of stroke; Professor Prashant Jamwal, Head of the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences at Nazarbayev University, spoke about modern digital and robotic opportunities for the rehabilitation of patients after stroke.

An important part of the practical program was the pre- and post-conference workshops delivered by Professor Heinz Schleenbecker, physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor, and an expert of Senior Expert Service (SES), Germany. Participants were introduced to modern kinesitherapy methods, including PNF and the Bobath concept, used in the rehabilitation of patients after stroke, injuries, and locomotorium surgeries.

Among the national speakers were Yerzhan Adilbekov, Chairman of the Board of the National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who addressed the organization and coordination of the stroke service in the Republic of Kazakhstan; Ramiz Kuliyev, head of the branch center of technological competences of the National Scientific Center for Healthcare Development named after Salidat Kairbekova at the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who highlighted the experience of technological forecast in healthcare and the identification of forward-looking technological solutions for neurology; Akmaral Izbassarova, Head of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, who presented modern approaches and areas in stroke rehabilitation; and Laura Yeszhanova, Head of the Department of Neurology at the National Medical University named after T. Sharmanov; Professor; Candidate of Medical Sciences, who presented modern approaches to addressing current issues in post-stroke dementia.

The conference was attended by representatives of leading medical and educational organizations of Kazakhstan. The discussions combined clinical practice, scientific developments, and modern technologies in the fields of neurology and rehabilitation.

An important part of the conference was the School of Young Scientists, which included a competition of research papers in the form of poster presentations. Young researchers presented their developments and studies in neurorehabilitation, recovery from stroke, virtual reality, epidemiology, and modern rehabilitation technologies.




Following the results of the competition, the winners were announced. In the nomination of “From Scientific Idea to Clinical Practice,” I.T. Ishanov, an academic undergraduate student at the National Medical University named after T. Sharmanov (academic supervisor: B.S. Khamidullin, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor); in the nomination of “Best Research in Public Health,” I.A. Karabek, an academic undergraduate student at the National Medical University named after T. Sharmanov (academic supervisors: A.A. Mussina, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and A.I. Aidarkhanova, Senior Lecturer); in the nomination of “For Comprehensive Approach to Assessing Recovery of Motor Function After Stroke,” I.A. Bolshakova, a second-year PhD candidate in the Nursing Science educational program at "Karaganda Medical University" NCJSC (academic supervisor: T.T. Kispayeva, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor). As part of the School of Young Scientists, voting took place, resulting in the first place in the “Audience Choice Award” nomination, A.K. Manaq and A.A. Raiymzhan were awarded, second-year residents at “Semey Medical University” NCJSC (academic supervisor: A.R. Alimbayeva, Head of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Neonatology, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor).

The competition winners were awarded diplomas and received the opportunity for priority publication of their scientific work presented at the Competition in compliance with the requirements of the "Medicine and Ecology" journal, included (in accordance with Order of the Chairman of the Science and Higher Education Quality Assurance Committee at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, No. 368 dated March 19, 2024) in the List of Publications recommended by the Committee for the publication of the main results of scientific activity.

The practical program of the conference continued with workshops on kinesitherapy in neurorehabilitation, scale-based diagnosis in medical rehabilitation, acupuncture in neurology, and kinesitherapy in traumatology.

The 7th International Scientific and Practical Conference provided an important platform for professional dialogue, the exchange of international and national experience, and the presentation of new scientific developments. The particular focus on neurorehabilitation and support for young scientists reflects the professional community’s commitment to integrating scientific knowledge, modern technologies, and clinical practice to further improve neurological and rehabilitation care and enhance patients’ quality of life.
